Amphibians in Cuba Naturaleza

Cuba is one of the Antillean islands with more diversity of amphibians. Until these days are known 57 species of frogs and toads , of them 54 are endemic, that makes of our amphibians the group of vertebrates with more endemismo. Cuba doesn't have representatives of other groups of amphibians as the salamanders, newts and cecilias. The mountain range of the oriental region of Cuba store the biggest diversity of species.

Stand out the tiny frog Monte Iberia Dwarf Eleuth (Eleutherodactylus iberia), that constitutes the smallest amphibian in the north hemisphere, because it only reaches 9-10 mm of longitude. The Cuban Tree Frog (Osteopilus septentrionalis) the biggest of the tree frogs in North America and the Caribbean. The Turquino Fern Frog (Eleutherodactylus glamyrus) endemic to Cuba and present in several locations of Sierra Maestra. The Yellow-Striped Pygmy Eleuthg is perhaps the fourth-smallest frog in the world.

In the humid nights of the summer, the forests and plains take the sound shade of our frogs and toads whose "songs" are often confused with the sound that emit some insects. Many people think that all the frogs and toads put their eggs in the water, of which larvas or tadpoles emerge. However, the Cuban frogs of the gender Eleutherodactylus puts its eggs outside of the water, in the humid earth, among the moss, or inside the curujeyes. From these eggs tiny very similar frogs are born to their parents.
